UNSOLICITED MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Gibbs Smith only accepts unsolicited manuscripts submitted in electronic form.

We will respond only to submissions in which we are interested. If we would like you to submit further materials or information, we will contact you within 12 weeks.

Do not send any materials to us through regular mail unless we invite you to do so. Unsolicited materials received through regular mail will not be returned. We will not and cannot be held responsible for the loss or damage of any materials submitted to us, no matter the type of material or means of submission.

If you choose to upload a document, the document must be a Microsoft Word document, a plaintext or RTF file, or a PDF. Your name, e-mail address and phone number must appear on the document’s first page.

NONFICTION
Our main emphasis is on lifestyle, which includes interior design, architecture, and cookbooks. We also accept submissions that focus on a broad array of topics including popular culture, gardening, Arts & Crafts, humor, and gift books.
For the above subjects, we welcome a proposal, including: a description of the subject, an analysis of the market, and the author’s qualifications for writing the book, as well as: how the author is going to help sell and promote the book, an outline of contents, and sample writing.
For nonfiction subjects other than those listed above, send a query letter only. We will invite a full submission if we are interested.
CHILDREN
We are accepting submissions for children’s activity books, but we are not currently accepting submissions for children’s picture books.
Submit a detailed outline and a writing sample. Activity book manuscripts should contain fewer than 15,000 words. We will invite the entire manuscript submission if we are interested.
FICTION
- We are NOT accepting fiction manuscripts, story collections, novels, religious, or young adult chapter books at this time.
POETRY
We are NOT accepting poetry at this time.
